ABOUT COUNSELLING

There are times when life throws a ‘curve ball’ and life can deviate from a path we expected. This can leave you feeling alone, anxious, distressed, overwhelmed, confused and quite uncertain about things in life. These feelings are quite normal when unexpected events happen and counselling, having a space to talk freely to someone, can help.
People come to counselling for a variety of different reasons. These can include support when facing a crisis, loss or needing to make a decision or solve a problem. Counselling can bring about insight, increase awareness, knowledge and understanding, helping an individual to move forward in their life.
Deciding to have counselling can seem like a big step; you have already taken the first step by looking at my website. Counselling gives you the opportunity for self-exploration, to look at your past, your behaviours, habits and relationships. Counselling can also help you to increase self-awareness, change thoughts and behaviour as well as improve confidence and abilities to deal with difficult events in life. Counselling is a supportive rather than directive activity, where the client has autonomy and choice.
The relationship and trust that develops between a counsellor and their client is central to the success of counselling; this for me is at the heart of what I want to achieve with each of my clients.
